The London Hip Unit was created in 2002 with the aim to provide a fully supported service offering the best possible treatment and lifelong follow-up for adults with hip problems.

It was established by internationally renowned specialist hip surgeon Miss Sarah Muirhead-Allwood BSc FRCS, who has worked for 30 years as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and has specialised exclusively in hip surgery for over 25 years.

Consultant orthopaedic surgeon Mr Angus Lewis joined The London Hip Unit in 2015, followed more recently by hip surgeons Mr William Bartlett and Mr Jonathan Hutt.

The London Hip Unit offers the full spectrum of hip surgery. Miss Muirhead-Allwood performs primary and revision hip replacements and hip resurfacings and is well-known for developing minimally invasive procedures. Mr Angus Lewis, Mr Jonathan Hutt and Mr William Bartlett also offer hip arthroscopy and all forms of hip preservation surgery.

Our philosophy is that each patient is treated on a completely individual basis according to their particular needs. We offer a comprehensive service for adults with all hip complaints, including complex diagnosis, second opinion, hip surgery and revision/redo surgery for patients who have previously had failed surgery.

Our team approach at The London Hip Unit provides the advantage of easy access to second opinions. We discuss complex cases in frequent multidisciplinary team meetings, allowing for robust continuity of care.
